“Falkor” Wziontka, a Maltese/Shih Tzu/Chihuahua dog owned by Rosa and Tim Wziontka from Buffalo Grove, recently won the top prize in the nation from Best Friends Pet Hotels for going “from ruff to fluff” in the national “Diamond in the Fluff” Before and After Grooming Photo Contest.

Falkor was groomed at the Prairie Grove Best Friends center on 22096 N. Pet Lane. This summer, Best FriendsPet Hotel celebrated the bond between pets and pet parents, first narrowing the winners via an online vote to twenty top furry finalists who looked pretty “ruff” during quarantine.

The top prizes in the “Diamondin the Fluff” contest were chosen by special judge and celebrity pet groomer Jonathan David, finalist in Animal Planet’s “Groomer Has It” show. The most transformed pooches were crowned with customized prizes from Best Friends Pet Hotel, including a “Ruby from the Ruff” Prize Pack, a “Sapphire After Scruff” Prize Pack, and “Diamond In The Fluff” grand prizes – one People’s Choice winner, and one celebrity judge winner.

According to celebrity judge Jonathan David, “I chose Falkor as the Grand Prize winner because out of all the adorable entries I thought his grooming was the best. It was a very even and balanced trim, very cute and a popular style among toy dogs. His Best Friends Pet Hotel Prairie Grove groomer did a very nice job.”

David added, “Pets are such a comfort to us at this time, but our pets’ grooming schedule went on hiatus in quarantine. In my salon in West Palm Beach, we have our work cut out for us. I’m proud to have served as a judge in this creative online photo contest and enjoyed reviewing allthese ‘ruff-to-fluff’ contestants. Falkor was a doggy diamond shining the brightest in this contest.”

“Congratulations to the Wziontka family, and all our dedicated Best Friends Pet Hotelpet parents who submitted fabulous ‘before and after’ photos for this first-ever contest,” said Darryl Sampson, Vice President, Operations and Growth, Best Friends Pet Hotel. “Thanks also to all our hardworking employees and groomers who care for dogs, cats, and pocket pets in all 31 of our employee-owned centers.”
